Musette
Anon
ABRSM Grade 2 Piano 2019 - 2020.
Teaching Notes:
The 2/4 time signature of this Musette should be felt by putting a little extra weight on the first beat of each bar. Be careful that at no time the second beat becomes heavier than the first.
Dynamics in the ABRSM edition are editorial, but they are a good pattern to follow. In any case, dynamics from the Baroque period (such as this piece), should generally be terraced, that is to say, they change suddenly, not gradually.
The articulation of bars 13-16 will need special attention, make sure the last note of each slurred group is lifted. All other quavers, that have no slur marks on them, in either hand, should be separated.
For example, here is a common mistake made by many students. Play the audio file and see if you can spot the difference in what is printed and what the student played.
If you find that your semiquaver groups are getting uneven, you could try practising them as dotted rhythms first, reverting to straight semiquavers later.
Finally, a slight easing of the tempo in the last bar would be quite stylistic.
